What kind of content do AI assistants actually cite?

AI assistants cite content they can extract an answer from: direct, self-contained passages that state a fact, a number, a definition, or a recommendation in plain text — under a heading that matches the question being asked.

Specificity wins citations. "Pricing starts at $X for Y" gets quoted; "affordable solutions tailored to your needs" never does. Original information — your data, your prices, your process, your service area — is citable in a way generic advice can't be.

Format for the machine that quotes and the human who reads: question-shaped headings, the answer in the first sentence, facts in text rather than images, and one idea per passage.
